Prophet, You Are Uniquely Qualified to Bring Change, Here's How
“My greatest desire as a servant was to meet every need of my leader so that he could sit down to do deep work and pour out everything God had given him without being distracted by needing to pay a bill or get a cup of coffee. ”
As a prophet, I have the unique position of being called as the armor bearer to my leader; a leader God has placed in my life and told me to serve. For a long time, I had a hard time accepting this role because according to a lot of the church examples I had seen, being an armor bearer usually meant you were someone’s lackey!
You run around and get their coffee, their lunch, pray them through, help them prep their sermon notes, travel everywhere they do, and your life is solely to be there to do what they tell you to, and to take care of their every need or whim… I did not get how that was serving God (#arrogant prophet much?).
So, when I finally took on the role, I had prepared myself for the running around of senseless chores. To my surprise, my Apostle did nothing of the sort! What my leader expected of me, was to be a troubleshooter. He expected me to pray for him and the work to get direction from God the Father, and to help prepare the ground to receive what my Apostle was about to bring. He expected me to come into the office and make sure the desks were where they should be, that an efficient plan was made for lunch so we could eat quickly and then get back to God’s work without our literal flesh standing in the way.
It took me a long while to figure this out, but when a team member asked our Apostle what his motivation to serve was and he dropped that quote above, I felt the light bulb above my head flash to life. I discovered just how easily I am able to be the armor bearer and actually be that problem solver because I am a prophet!
Prophets, you already have the eyes to see the problems! You already have an idea of the solutions to those problems. Now we just need to take steps to actually do the job. God has given you the job to build and establish His kingdom. He has given you the eyes to see the weak structures or broken windows the enemy is using to tear down the church. So, let’s do something about it!
Time to Get Hooked Up
As much as we are great at seeing the problems and the possible solutions, we can make terrible organizers because we get so caught up in all the ideas and bits of revelation God is giving us that we do not know where to start!
A prophet will see a problem in the worship team, drop what they are doing and run to solve that problem. Then, there is a problem in the children’s ministry and so they stop what they are doing with the worship team to fix that and etc. It is a dangerous cycle.
So, get connected with a pastor. They are literally designed by God to carry many multiple tasks at once and organize them so they get done in priority order. Connect with your local pastor, become their armor bearer, and find out what they expect of you. Once you start fulfilling those expectations, the two of you can work together to efficiently build the kingdom of God together.
Today, I come to work excited to work with my Apostle because I cannot wait to see what we will build together. I tried for a long time to try and “fix the church” on my own and I got burnt out, bitter, and honestly, wasn’t a nice person. Once I dealt with those issues and started working with my leader and His team though, I saw more fruit and change happen in the short time I worked with them than when I was that #SoloProphet.
So, get excited, get hooked up, and let’s bring on that change you know God has called you to bring!
