Your "How to Prophesy" Guide for NextGen Prophets
Before I teach you HOW to prophesy, let me show you where prophecy begins!
“For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.”
Confused? So was I at first when I started learning to flow in the gift of prophecy, but the answer is very simple, prophecy starts with you - the vessel that God needs in order for His voice to be heard. You see, you are not God personified (I think we can all agree to that), but rather you are His herald that goes out on His behalf to deliver His personal messages or to announce His messages in the town square throughout the kingdom!
So, your First step to prophesying is by making yourself available in whatever capacity you are capable of at the time of reading this article. Whether it is in the privacy of your prayer closet or the public of the church podium, allow God to use you where He is at.
The Second step, is to know your current audience. Here is the thing, God will not give you a word or message to tell someone that they will not understand or that you cannot say. “We prophesy in part and know in part” meaning God will use terms you or your audience will understand to get His point across.
However, in the third step, if you want to “go deeper” and reach a different audience, you need to study. How the Lord uses you and who He needs you to reach is depended on your maturity. This is where the “when I became a man, I put away childish thing” comes in, because if you want to speak to leaders, then you yourself must be able to speak their language, just like I cannot speak Spanish to someone who speaks Chinese - it would be awkward and you would both become frustrated!
So, if you know God has called you to work with a pastor, are you at a level in your calling or capability that your Pastor knows you are a reliable source? Study, learn, and grow from glory to glory, and as you do, you will be able to reach more and more people.
Your Final step is actually the simplest, never forget, prophecy is based on the gifts of “faith, hope and love”. If you are not standing to give that word in faith, hope, and love, then rather step down or speak a word of blessing, because our God is a God of Love, and even when He corrects, He correct in love that we may grow, mature and become stronger all the more for it.
Step out in faith dear prophet, and you will find the Lord is waiting to use you whenever you make yourself available to be used of Him as He desires.
