Here's How You Know That Pressure is From God!

When I say the word “under pressure”, what pictures come to mind? I’ll tell you what I see, I see the engine of my car. I see how the pistons are spinning and the system is heating up. I see how that temperature builds to a point where the car can remains warm and toasty despite the cold of winter outside, and my family is safe and sound.

I see the amount of time and effort my husband put into that car to make sure his family is taken care of and had everything we needed for a safe journey!

This is what I see when God talks about putting any one of my prophets under pressure. I see how he uses their circumstances to shape their character and give them a strength they did not have before.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope
— Romans 8:18-20 (NKJV)

I had one woman write a scathing review of a teaching I did once because I referenced how God will bring pressures to shape you. In this review, she commented how God would never put pressure and tell you to change, but this is very contrary to the very character of our Lord Jesus.

We come as we are, and He accepts us, but then we must move from glory to glory. True, God will never force you to change or grow, but it is His greatest desire that we put away our childish ways when we become adults. It is His desire that He can meet our needs and help us to grow as any good Father would.

Here is how you can identify if the pressure is a Godly one:

  • It is gradual and could have been planned for

  • It causes you to go outside of your comfort zone, but still within your abilities to do so

  • It will produce good fruit or return in the long run (such as gaining a new skill)

  • It buffets or crucifies your flesh (the flesh cannot comprehend the way of the spirit)

  • It produces Faith, Hope, love or any other fruits of the spirit in your life and throughout the process

  • it is something that will add/correlate with an instruction or direction He already gave you

Here is how to tell if the pressure is not of the Lord:

  • It is sudden and unreasonable

  • It pushes you into debt or to make sudden decisions that you have no experience in

  • It will steal your joy and blessing, produces fear, guilt, condemnation or panic and etc

  • It leaves behind a debt or price you will have to keep paying in the long run (such as continually sick or paying off it financially)

  • It does not add a skill that can be used all the time or help you gain a tool

  • It distracts from what the Lord needs you to do or pushes you beyond the instruction he has given you

God will bring pressure on you that will strengthen you and give you a good gift that will remain in return. He will always add to you, even if he has to remove the dross first, He will not leave you empty-handed.
